Updated Windows Vista install DVD

windowsThe following steps describe how to update the original Microsoft Vista install DVD with the latest drivers and Microsoft patches using vLite.

Preparations:

  1. Download the latest hardware drivers.
  2. Download the latest Fox’s vLite Windows Vista Update Pack. Check RyanVM’s Forum to get latest Vista updates pack.
  3. Download and install the latest version of Nuhi’s vLite.
  4. Copy the contents of the original Vista DVD to a folder on the hard drive, example C:\VistaDVD

To integrate the latest SP, drivers and updates:

  1. in Start: browse for the VistaDVD folder and select the Vista installation to configure in the pop-up window and click Next
  2. in Task: flag all pages that apply (choose all is easiest) and click Next
  3. in Integration – hotfixes: insert the latest Vista Update Pack
  4. in Integration – drivers: insert the latest hardware drivers and click Next
  5. in Unattended – Regional: select language and keyboard
  6. Click Apply, choose Rebuild One: Ultimate and click Next when rebuild has finished
  7. Save ISO image of the rebuilt install DVD
  8. Burn ISO to DVD disc

Optional customizations using vLite:

  • in Components: select the following components to remove:
    • Accessories: Welcome Center
    • Languages: select the unneeded languages
    • Multimedia: Music and Video Samples
    • Multimedia: Sample Pictures
    • Services: Error Reporting
  • in Tweaks:
    • Security: set User Account Control (UAC) to Disable
    • System: set Autoplay to Disable
    • System: set Hibernation to Off
    • System: set Power button to Shutdown
    • System: set Power Scheme to High performance
    • Explorer: set Show extensions for known file types to Yes
