mailto link to Hotmail in Firefox

firefoxFollow the next steps to configure Firefox to use Microsoft Live Mail or Hotmail as default application for mailto links.



  1. In the address bar enter: about:config
  2. In the filter field enter: gecko
  3. Double-click Preference Name: gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change its Value from false to true
  4. Copy and paste the text between the following text into the location bar and hit enter:

    javascript:navigator.registerProtocolHandler('mailto','http://mail.live.com/secure/start?action=compose&to=%s','Live Mail');

  5. Click Add Application
  6. Go to Tools>Options>Applications
  7. Search for content type mailto and select Use Live Mail.
  8. In the address bar enter: about:config
  9. Double-click Preference Name: gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to change its Value from true to false
