About Me

My life so far (in less than 200 words)

I was born and raised in the Netherlands. There I learned how to read and write at “De Lochtenbergh” and the “Cobbenhagen College“. After a very short stop at the “University of Technology” in Eindhoven “Philips” convinced me I was ready to start my professional career in the wonderful world of Information Technology, or “IT” as most call it nowadays.

Then women and food assured me that life might be better in Italy so I decided to transfer from the north to the south of Europe where I settled down by marrying the nicest Italian girl who had already been my best friend for many years.

Now, I don’t want to bore you by writing my entire curriculum vitae here so check out my detailed resumé if you’re interested or just drop me a note if you want to know more, okay?

Etymology

My first name “Patrick” derives from the Roman name “Patricius” which in Latin means “nobleman”. The patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick, adopted it as his name in the 5th century.

Because I am taller than most of the people around me I have earned the nickname “Patrickone” (pronounced: “pah-tree-koh-neh”) from my Italian friends. A friendly way of saying “big Patrick”. Hence the title of my web site.

My last name “Melis” is a typical patronym from the south of the Netherlands. And no, my dear Italian friends, as far as I could find out, I really do not have any ancestors coming from Sardinia where Melis is also very common as a surname.

Genealogy

I’ve researched my ancestry and created a family tree which can be downloaded by clicking the image below.
